The League celebrates its 103rd birthday!
On February 14, 2023, the League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS) will celebrate 103 years of carrying out its mission to defend democracy and empower voters. “The League was officially founded in Chicago on [February 14,] 1920, just six months before the 19th amendment was ratified and women won the vote. Formed by the suffragists of the National American Woman Suffrage Association, the League began as a “mighty political experiment” designed to help 20 million women carry out their new responsibilities as voters.”
Today, the League is a nonpartisan organization that is a recognized force in molding political leaders, shaping public policy, and promoting informed civic participation. To work with us for the next 100 years, join your local League today!” Read more about the history of the League LWVUS,
