Celebrating Our Election Heroes

Election Hero Day

Every election depends on dedicated individuals working behind the scenes to ensure voters can participate in a safe, secure, and well-organized election. On October 20, we celebrate those individuals as part of Election Hero Day, a nationwide recognition of the people who make our elections possible.

To mark the occasion, the League of Women Voters of Naperville and the League of Women Voters of Greater Joliet Area joined the Will County Clerk’s Office in hosting a special appreciation reception honoring local election judges and election staff.

The celebration recognized the dedication and hard work of those who serve voters throughout the election process. Attendees received special certificates and commemorative pins, enjoyed refreshments, and were recognized during a proclamation declaring October 20 Election Hero Day in Will County.

Who Are Our Election Heroes?

Election Hero Day is a national, nonpartisan celebration recognizing election officials, their staff, and poll workers for their essential contributions to our democracy.

While voters may be most familiar with the election judges who greet them at polling places, conducting an election involves many people and responsibilities.

Election heroes include:

  • Election judges and poll workers who welcome voters, check registrations, assist with voting procedures, and help ensure polling places operate smoothly.
  • Election office staff who process voter registrations and Vote by Mail applications, prepare election materials, test voting equipment, and answer voters’ questions.
  • Election administrators who oversee the many logistical and administrative responsibilities required to conduct elections.

Much of this work happens long before Election Day and continues after the polls close. These individuals help ensure that eligible voters can exercise their right to vote and that elections are administered accurately and securely.

Recognizing the People Behind Our Elections

As we approach the November 3 General Election, Election Hero Day offers an opportunity to recognize the time, preparation, and commitment required to serve our communities. We are proud to join our community partners in expressing appreciation for the individuals who carry out this important work.

To every election judge, poll worker, and election staff member, thank you.
Your dedication, professionalism, and service to voters are essential to our democracy.
